The Alchemists (a poem to inspire your fiercely alive whole self)

The Alchemists ~ by Laura Di Franco
(inspired by a writing prompt from Laura Munson, Author: What holds your heart together?)

My heart’s held together
by invisible elves
who rush around
and pluck fur
off animals living there.

They take the wool
for their wheel
from doubt and fear
shame and uncertainty-
feed it through
and watch it spin
until something turns up.

They pull it through
to the other side.
It looks different

Threads of hope

…some sparkling gold
or sapphire blue
some in raspberry pink

And then the most
magical thing occurs.
The elves gather there
in the center-
you know that meatiest part
under your
flag-worshipping hand?

They push their way
through the blood
and tears
and cloggy parts
dripping with fear
and too much cortisol,
who’s sitting there
taking shots
with adrenaline,
getting shit faced.

They move their way
through the drunkards
and trouble makers
making a circle
with their threads.

And with a silent nod
from their leader
(my soul)
they get busy

Nobody looks up
for the longest time.
Their task -
Their mission-

They’re sewing
my calling.
The little
are doing their magic
with my darkness

I love those
little devils.
