Something So Good (a poem)

Last night I cried
in your arms.
You felt the drops
on your chest,
noticed the change
in my breath.
You knew,
and waited quietly.
“Everything okay?”
You finally whispered
as I continued to try
to choke it all down,
afraid you’d think
something bad.
“I could crawl inside and stay forever,” I barely said,
“I feel something so big, so good.”
“It’s not bad,” I reassured.
“I know,” you replied,
and placed your smooth, warm hands
on that place on my back
cradling my tears
until they were dry.
