Ready. Fire. Aim. Why Taking Action is the Only Way to Succeed

Being an action taker is the secret to success; not being perfect, not being blessed with the right timing, not being expert enough, not avoiding mistakes or failures, and not getting it right.

“Ready. Fire. Aim. You don’t need to know exactly which road you’re taking to take the first step.” Sage Lavine, from her book Women Rocking Business

I knew this secret before I read that last line in Sage’s book, but the acknowledgement was sweet. And as soon as I read it I hopped onto my laptop to tell you all…again: action’s the magic that’s going to create the life you crave.

Thing is, most of us are so afraid we’re not good enough yet, don’t have the right connections yet, aren’t perfect or skilled or smart enough yet, or don’t have a big enough email list yet, that we get seriously paralyzed and forget it’s the action-taking that will get us there.

Lets stop this. Today.

What book do you want to write? What workshop would you like to teach? What transformational program would you like to lead? What healing program would you like to roll out? Please for the love of all-things-Goddess, go do it before you’re ready. The world needs your magic.

It’s inside of the action that you’ll acquire the knowledge, fine tuning, answers, and clarity you crave. But you have to be willing to make the mistakes, use them as stepping stones, and move your way toward your dreams.

You’ve thought it out enough.

You’ve learned enough.

You have enough degrees and certifications.

You’ve practiced enough.

It’s time to do what you said you wanted to do and learn the rest as you go. Unless of course you’re okay with taking another year (or five) to get it perfect. (gag).

So recently I was working with a spectacular, highly motivated, inspiring and intelligent group of women in a coaching group and our assignment was to create a mastermind program for our fans; to offer a free challenge that would light their fire, and then create a paid mastermind for those who wanted to take that fire and go light up the world. There were at least a dozen of us in that group. Two of us ran the free challenge. One of us created the mastermind.

That one was me. My Brave Healers Mastermind (The Intuitive Writers Workshop and Mastermind for 2018) and the ten brave warrior women who signed up for it (yay me, people signed up!) have been working our way through the healing work it takes to heal the world. I’m proud of myself for being the one who took action, even though I did not feel ready, even though I had never run a “mastermind” before, or even tried a Zoom meeting.

But that’s always been me; I’m the ready, fire, aim gal, the one who just gets shit done. And I love what it’s done for me. I’ve realized dreams, changed my life, and experienced so much more joy than some of the people I know who are stuck over-thinking, dreaming and wishing for things to be ready or right.

You know what happened with my mastermind? The ladies of this BETA (first time) program — who knew it was a BETA by the way, and got a special discount because of that, helped me create the program I’ll roll out in 2018. They did the work, have been giving me feedback, and have generously engaged and supported each other, and are transforming their lives to be able to live their dreams. They are taking action — damn I love them!

A-fucking-men to that! Please go read Shirley’s (one of my participants) very first blogs and positive message to the world HERE, to get an idea of what we’ve been up to.

What would have happened if I was too afraid to start? Nothing. Nothing would have happened. And that’s the point. No attempt, no information, no tweaking as I go, no way to know if what I had envisioned was it, or if I wanted to make changes. No amazing blog from my friend Shirley.

I’m not sure how else to put it- if you want to do something, go do it with what you have, from where you’re at. And then revise, refresh and evolve from there. You’ll see right in the middle of the imperfect trial will be all the answers to the next step. More than you ever thought possible — all because you looked fear in the face, asked her into the sandbox with you, and said, “Bring it on!”

Here are the four most important steps to taking the action that’ll create the success:

  1. Dream up and write out your plan.
  2. Talk to as many people as you can about your plan, get feedback, and fine tune your plan. Find someone who’s been there, done that and ask them out to lunch and pick their brain, or hire the coach who’s done your dream and work your strategy with her.
  3. IMPLEMENT YOUR PLAN!
  4. Use what you learn and repeat the steps.

Ready. Fire. Aim.

And by the way, you’ll never feel ready and it will never be perfect, so rather than waiting for those inner critic thoughts to change, why don’t you see what happens when you make a decision and actually move despite your fear. And hit me up in the comments about it! Can’t wait to hear about your magic!
