Imagine the Leaves (a poem to inspire your fiercely alive whole self)

A silent
sleepy ride
brings thoughts spinning
like tiny leaves off trees,
twirling to earth
in red-orange spirals
dazzling my eyes
as they go.

Like most spinning
twirling, dazzling things
I like to ride them
with wings spread;
try keeping them
in the air a bit longer,
breathe in the delight
they give off
like steamy fog
on a weirdly warm
full moonlit pavement.

I’ll save the memory
of their simple gift
for later
when doubt comes
with its shadow
trying to convince me
magic doesn’t exist.

I resist
with those little
red glimmers;
let the sunset
light fires
behind my eyes,
imagine the leaves
as they combust
into hope
and possibility.
