I’m learning affirmations are a powerful way to create the life I crave. I’ve practiced them forever, but after reading Hal Elrod’s book, The Miracle Morning, I’ve discovered some new tips and tricks that are taking this affirmation thing to another badass level. Here’s what you’re missing in your affirmation game that can change everything.
With awareness we have a choice to change our internal dialogue. If you’re like me you’ve battled your inner critic and fear voices to the point of exhaustion. It’s time to reprogram our minds, and affirmations are one way to do it. In fact, they are a powerful way, and after I read Hal’s book, I realized a few things I’d been missing:
1. Include an affirmation for every area of your life you want to change
2. Make sure the affirmation is actually worded positively
3. Write them down!
4. Read them out loud!
5. Be unwaveringly consistent about this routine!
Up until now I’d been following a few of these steps fairly regularly, but not all of them. I was writing inspiring quotes and affirmations down in my journals when I came across them and creating posts and things to inspire others, but I wasn’t going full-on with these steps. Now I’m excited to put into place what I feel is going to be rocket fuel for my affirmations; creating a consistent, daily ritual around them that serves every one of my deepest desires.
1. An affirmation for every area of your life.
First off don’t hold back; start collecting a list of your favorite, most powerful affirmations and/or quotes in a special journal or notebook. I even posted this on Facebook, asking my friends to add to the list to give me some ideas. The trick is to include an affirmation that aligns with every area of your life. You might even have a few for each area.
I realized I had one for money and then one general one that was bravery/worthiness related, but I hadn’t taken the time to create special affirmations for things like my love relationship, my community, and my personal and business connections. Affirmations are specific, so it behooves us to create them for each area we want to improve.
2. Word them positively
This is one of the tricks I learned in my healing and self-development studies that’s a game changer for positive thinking and manifesting. Many times we pray or affirm things like: I want to be successful, I want to have a thriving business, or I feel pain-free. The problem with these affirmations are the wording. I want means you don’t have, so it vibrates with lack. Pain-free still has the word “pain” in it.
Instead of I want, word your affirmations positively, for example: I have everything I need to be successful, or all the resources I need for a thriving business come to me easily, and/or, my body, mind and soul feel free and easy.
3. Write them down!
Many times we don’t take the time to write these things down. It’s cool to keep them up in your head, but it’s even better when you write them down, because making them “out loud” like that makes them real. Don’t skip this! Create a special journal for your affirmations and even better, take your favorite ones and do something special with them. Post them around your house, in frames, in pretty paper stickers and glitter; whatever it takes for you to notice them more often, read them and embody their message!
4. Read them out loud!
Giving an actual voice to your affirmation is KEY! Read them out loud. Sing them in the shower. Tell them to a friend. Practice saying them out loud to yourself and feel the energy and vibration with which you’re speaking. The feel and emotion behind the words is very important. Don’t just speak them in a robotic tone. If you’re doing that the affirmation doesn’t excite you enough. Pick affirmations that turn you on and make you want to shout them to the world!
5. Be Consistent!
Consistency is the magic juice that will be your rocket fuel. Write them and especially speak them every day, multiple times a day. Get into a routine with this and stick to it. The more you do, the easier it will feel and the more power you’ll be putting into what you will be creating.
Consistent, positive affirmations are one action you can take to create the life you crave. It’ll begin to change your thinking, beliefs and behaviors, slowly helping you deprogram the negative ones that don’t serve you anymore. This is a powerful step to changing everything and watching your life change before your eyes!
