3 Reasons Your Content Should Inspire You Before You Try to Conquer the World

If what you’re thinking, believing, saying and doing doesn’t light you the fuck up then why are you doing it?

You gotta inspire yourself first, like really get yourself feeling the bliss and creating a plan you can’t wait to wake up to, or you won’t be able to do it for others with enough energy to spark the revolution you’re hoping for.

Here are the reasons your content needs to inspire you first, so you can take on the world next:

  1. If you’re not feeling it, nobody else is either.
  2. If you’re not feeling it you’ll eventually lose the motivation to keep trying.
  3. If you’re not feeling it you’re not going to stand out in the crowd and spark your revolution.

I’m in the middle of a new online program I created with a dozen amazing Goddesses and one of them says, “I want to feel inspiring, not just be inspiring.” And something big clicked for me.

It’s not enough to go out and be awesome if you’re doing it for everyone else. You must inspire the shit out of yourself first. You have to feel it, and then you can be it — with more impact than you ever thought possible.

I’d just read them the first draft of my Ted Talk, a goal I’ve had for a couple years, and as I was speaking I was becoming more and more excited about my own message. I was feeling it. And it was good.

I’m interested in my ideal client and have spent money on courses to get to know her. I understand the importance of talking to her when I write copy for my programs. But wanna know the biggest secret? You are your ideal client, only it’s you before you were the now you. There, you can put your credit card away.

Who was I before now? Scared. Scared of being my wild, crazy, uninhibited self out loud. I spent so much energy suppressing my essence and convincing her it’d be better to tone it down I exhausted and disappointed myself. I was too worried about what everyone else would think of me.

I could be inspiring, but I was only acting from a place of serving everyone but me. When I started lighting my own spark, that was the bonfire I’d been waiting for. And it’s still raging. You can probably see that baby from space now.

When I serve by serving myself first, the motivation has momentum and staying power. I get filled up and serve from overflow.

This should be really easy. You know yourself well. Or do you? The best question to ask yourself when you’re creating for others is, “Does this turn me on?” If it doesn’t get you going you need to conjure up the feeling of what does, first, before you try to speak to others and light them up.

Write and speak from a place of deeper emotion, a place that moves you, and watch how you conquer the world with your authenticity, vulnerability and courage.

I know you’re inspiring. I know you can be the person who helps everyone. I know you’re good at it. I know you know what to say to someone who needs to be lifted up, motivated, supported and given hope when it’s lost.

But does what you’re saying do that for you? Do you listen to your own words and smile and go do something that aligns with your own dreams right then and there?

Here’s what I think gets in the way, when you think you’re inspiring but you’re getting crickets, or unable to fill your programs. You’re still too worried about what everyone else thinks and afraid you’ll offend people, so you dumb down, write or speak more gently, and don’t end up taking advantage of what sets you apart from the crowd.

You’re trying to fit in instead of stand out. You’re looking to someone else to know what to say, instead of inspiring yourself first. You’re not seeing your uniqueness as an advantage, so you try to make sure you’re doing it like everyone else.

But that doesn’t work for long because people want to understand how you’re different. They need you to be brave. They need to be able to say, “Me too,” to know their own quirkiness is what makes them special.

Ask yourself, does what I’m preaching move me? Do I feel anything? Is this the message I need to hear? Does this get me to take any action on my own dreams?

If you’re getting yeses, you’re on the right track. Trick is not to change or warp your message thinking it needs to be toned down for the masses. Say it like it is; the full-on, in your face, enthusiastic and unapologetic expression of you!

Give yourself permission to feel everything, then sit down and write about it!

I don’t have anymore time to be afraid. My dreams, and yours, are waiting for us. We either get over our fear and go do something great today, or we don’t and stay paralyzed, regretful and sorry.

Choose brave and change the world.
